The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is currently searching for a man who attempted to abduct a 20-year-old University of Technology (UTech) student in Kingston.
The man’s identity was not disclosed, but reports state that he resides in Portland and had a social relationship with the victim. The incident occurred on Sunday, after she and the accused met at South Parade sometime after 11 a.m., and he drove her onto King Street in downtown Kingston.
She later told him that she was ready to go to work and attempted to leave the vehicle. However, the man reportedly drove off unexpectedly, which caused an injury to her feet.
He proceeded to pull her into the car and sped off. A tussle between the pair ensued, and the woman was forced to jump out of the moving vehicle in the vicinity of Kingston High School. She sustained multiple injuries during her escape and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The incident was subsequently reported to the authorities. The UTech student’s narrow escape from her would-be abductor follows the abduction and murder of another student from the institution, Anisa Dilworth.
Dilworth, who was also 20 years old, was a first-year pharmaceutical student. She was reported missing on May 2, and her skeletal remains were later discovered on May 17 at a beach in Portmore, St. Catherine, by a security guard.
Jamar Grant, a 29-year-old taxi operator, was subsequently arrested and charged with her murder and abduction.
