Man killed by the police in Clarendon

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed by an off duty policeman in Clarendon on Saturday.

The incident took place at the victim’s home in Savannah Cross, Clarendon.

The deceased has been identified as Alex Smith from the parish.

It is reported that Alex and the off-duty cop hot into an altercation where Alex pulled a machete.

He then reportedly made efforts to inflict wounds on the cop who then shot him in self defense.

Independent Commission Of Investigations (INDECOM) have launched a probe into the matter.

Residents in the community have gave a different account of the incident.

One woman said “a lie dem a tell, the yute neva av no machete“.

Another person pointed out the bullet wounds in the deceased back indicating that he was not attacking anyone.

The community have voiced their outrage saying the incident is stemming from a family dispute over land and property, and that the policeman was merely a hitman.
