Hero cop slain defending vendor from robbery

A member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) was shot and killed about 9:00pm Monday night in St. Ann.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Constable Ricardo Fairclough.

Reports are that the constable was at a supermarket on Bravo Street, St. Ann when he witnessed a robbery taking place.

The gunman then shot and injured the female vendor and Constable Fairclough who was nearby, responded.

A brief gun battle ensued and the police was shot in the upper body.

The Constable and the vendor was rushed to the hospital, where the cop succumbed to his injuries.

The Constable Communications Unit (CCU) says Constable Ricardo Fairclough is the first police to be killed since the start of the year.
