A 39-year-old St. Elizabeth man has been charged in connection with the death of his former common-law partner, whose body was later found in the Black River.
The accused, labourer Dellode Warren, was charged on Sunday following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney.
Police say Warren admitted to killing 50-year-old Nicole Brown, also known as “Nicky,” and disposing of her body in the river.
Nicole, a farmer from Barton Wharf, St. Elizabeth, had reportedly been in a common-law relationship with Warren.
According to investigators, the relationship had been troubled by several disputes, and Nicole had reportedly asked Warren to leave the home.
The circumstances surrounding Nicole’s disappearance began unfolding on Monday, August 3, when a relative became concerned after being unable to reach her by phone.
The relative also reportedly tried contacting Warren, but those calls went unanswered.
When the home was checked, police say Warren’s belongings were no longer there, and a missing-person report was subsequently made.
Later that day, residents reportedly confronted Warren about Nicole’s whereabouts, and according to the police, the situation became physical, and Warren suffered multiple injuries before officers intervened and took him to hospital for treatment.
The following day, August 4, Warren was taken to the Black River Police Station for questioning.
It was during that interview, police say, that Warren admitted to killing Brown and disposing of her body in a section of the Black River.
A joint search involving the police and military was subsequently carried out, resulting in the recovery of Nicole’s body.
Warren was later charged following further investigative work and the question-and-answer session conducted with his attorney present.
Police have not yet announced a date for his first court appearance.
