New York Security Guard Shot Dead at Father’s Wake in Ocho Rios

A family gathering to mourn the death of a father turned into another tragedy after a 30-year-old woman was shot and killed while attending his wake in Fern Grove, Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

The deceased has been identified as Brittannia Reid, otherwise called “Brittney,” a security guard employed in New York, United States.

Reid, who was from Lancewood Exchange and Fern Grove in Ocho Rios, reportedly returned to Jamaica on Monday, October 19, to attend the funeral arrangements for her father, Andrew Reid.

However, she would not return to the United States.

Gunfire Erupts During Early-Morning Wake

The fatal shooting reportedly occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. yesterday, while Reid was among several people gathered for her father’s wake.

She was reportedly standing alone when explosions were heard, causing alarm among those attending the gathering.

Residents alerted the police, and responding officers found Reid suffering from gunshot wounds to the right side of her body.

She was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear. The available information does not establish who carried out the shooting or what motivated the killing.

A Return Home Ends in Tragedy

Reid’s death has added another layer of grief to a family already preparing to lay a loved one to rest.

She had travelled from New York to Jamaica for her father’s funeral, but the family is now faced with another devastating loss.

The shooting reportedly happened while relatives and other mourners were gathered for the wake, raising further questions about the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Questions Remain After Fatal Shooting

Why Reid was targeted, whether the gunman intended to attack her specifically, and whether anyone at the wake witnessed details that could assist investigators remain unanswered.

Those questions will need to be addressed through the investigation rather than speculation.

For now, a family mourning the loss of a father must also come to terms with the death of his daughter.
