The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has launched an investigation into the murder of a Manchester farmer who was brutally killed with his dog over the weekend.

The deceased man has been identified as Shyan Young. Young, who also went by the alias ‘Shane’, resided in the community of Epping Forest in Comfort Hall, Manchester.

According to initial reports, residents in the Canewood district stumbled upon the farmer’s body on a roadway in the community on Sunday night. The police were notified after the discovery of Young’s remains, and upon their arrival, officers saw what appeared to be multiple chop wounds all over his body.

The man’s dog had also been chopped to death by his murderer. Young’s body was transported to the Mandeville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into Young’s murder is being led by the Mandeville Criminal Investigation Branch. According to the JCF’s Serious Crimes Report, there had been 26 murders reported in the parish between January 1 and October 11.

The total marks a 38.1% reduction in deaths when compared to the 42 murders reported over the same period in 2024. According to the same report, murders are currently down in 18 of the police divisions across the country.

The only division that has not seen a decline when compared to the comparative period last year is St. Ann, which has recorded a 19.5% increase in murders.
