Toddler Dies After Getting Electrocuted in Westmoreland

Investigators attached to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 3-year-old boy who was electrocuted in Westmoreland.

The deceased toddler has been identified as Tamani Flemmings. According to reports, the incident occurred at Fleming’s home in the Nile District of Westmoreland on Monday.

Some time after 9:00 a.m. yesterday, Flemming was at his home with his mother, a teacher by profession, and his other siblings when he left the house to go outside and play. While the toddler was playing, he went to an area on the family’s property where electrical wires had allegedly been placed on the ground.

It is not yet clear why the wires had been placed at the location or if efforts were made to cordon off the area. Reports state that Flemmings became entangled in the electrical wiring and was electrocuted.

After the incident, the toddler was rushed to the Savannah-La-Mar Hospital via a private vehicle. However, Flemmings, who sustained what appeared to be burn injuries to his face and neck, was pronounced dead by doctors at the medical facility.

The authorities have ruled the incident a death by misadventure. The Savannah-La-Mar Criminal Investigation Branch is leading the probe into the circumstances leading to Flemmings’ death.
