Following the circulation of a video capturing a man beating a woman with a machete in Trelawny, the police have arrested and charged the perpetrator.
The man has been identified as Cleon Buckle. The forty-two-year-old is a taxi operator who resides in the Freeman’s Hall district of Albert Town, Trelawny.
Buckle was arrested and charged with unlawful wounding on September 19 by the Ulster Spring Police after the incident occurred on September 14. According to reports, the victim, whose name has not been disclosed, went to Buckle’s residence to retrieve a car key.
While there, an argument developed between the pair, and the confrontation escalated when Buckle retrieved a machete to attack her. In footage recorded at the scene of the incident, the woman can be seen trying to flee as Buckle pursues her with the machete.
Buckle can be heard cursing the victim as he hit her with the weapon multiple times all over her body, causing her to fall to the ground. The taxi driver’s anger only subsided after multiple male bystanders intervened to stop the attack.
Bucke is scheduled to answer to the charge laid against him on October 6 in the Ulster Spring Parish Court. According to reports from the Jamaica Observer, investigators from the Trelawny Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) have indicated that an arrest warrant was previously issued for Buckle in connection with a separate case.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a minor repeatedly in 2024. Reports state that arrangements are being made for him to be interviewed and then formally charged for these additional offences.
