Gunman Killed During Intense Shootout With the Police in Mandeville
A gunman was shot and killed by the police during a dramatic standoff with the authorities on Tuesday, after the man allegedly fatally shot a businessman in Manchester this morning.
Neither of the deceased men has been formally identified, but the alleged shooter was reportedly known by the alias ‘Brown Man’. Preliminary reports indicate that the first shooting happened along lower Caledonia Road in Mandeville at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Brown Man, along with multiple unknown individuals, allegedly attacked and shot the businessman in his car, a Toyota Corolla. The vehicle later crashed with the injured man into a Toyota Prado near the entrance of BMull Auto.
The businessman, who is said to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, was later pronounced dead. Reports indicate that officers were in the vicinity of the shooting and quickly responded, tracking down the assailant to an apartment complex along Caledonia Road in the vicinity of the Heart/NSTA Trust training school.
The shootout between a team of officers and the assailant began at approximately 10 a.m., with the Head of the Manchester Police, Superintendent Carey Duncan, leading the team in the standoff. According to reports, the assailant had barricaded himself inside the apartment complex.
Despite the imminent danger posed by the officers and the gunman exchanging bullets, bystanders chose to remain at the scene, some streaming the incident live on social media. In the footage, multiple reinforcement teams can be seen arriving at the location, including members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) S.W.A.T. team.
Roughly three hours after the shootout had begun, the assailant was fatally shot by the police. No members of the security forces were injured during the incident.
