Officer Killed in Manchester Car Crash; Children Hospitalised

A police sergeant was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash in Manchester on Sunday that left two of his children hospitalised.

The deceased sergeant has been identified as Patrick Brown, a member of the Christiana Police Department. Brown was also a team leader for the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Manchester Division Operations Support Team.

According to preliminary reports, the crash occurred on the Winston Jones Highway in Mandeville at approximately 2:30 p.m. Brown, who was travelling with his twin children at the time, was driving a Honda Fit, and the vehicle veered into the path of a truck.

Reports state that the car then collided with the truck, which was carrying cattle, near the entrance of the Jamgas service station. Bystanders helped to remove the injured individuals, and the police later arrived on the scene and escorted a pickup truck, which transported the officer to the Mandeville Regional Hospital.

Brown was pronounced dead, and his children were hospitalised at the medical facility. Following Brown’s passing, the JCF’s High Command released a statement extending its condolences to his family.

“In this difficult moment, the thoughts and prayers of the entire JCF family are with Sergeant Brown’s loved ones, colleagues, and friends… Sergeant Brown was a valued member of the constabulary, and his loss will be keenly felt across the organisation. The JCF High Command extends its deepest condolences to all who mourn his passing,” the statement said.

The Chaplaincy Services Branch, the Welfare Division, and the Police Federation have been mobilised to assist Brown’s family and colleagues during their grieving process.
