The police have arrested and charged a contractor from Portland, who is accused of attacking another man who was working in his community with a gun and a machete.
The contractor has been identified as Jerome Williams, a 42-year-old resident of Ranch Hill, Port Antonio. According to reports, the incident happened on Wednesday, August 20, at approximately 7:00 a.m. while two men were planting light poles in a section of the community.
Reports state that Williams asked the men what they were doing, and one of the workers informed him that they had been given permission to undergo the work. It is not clear why Williams had an issue with the man, but he took away his machete and told him that he would remove the poles.
Shortly after, the situation escalated when Williams allegedly began running towards the man with the machete in one hand and a gun in the other as he threatened to shoot. The man fled the scene and later reported the incident to the authorities.
Williams was apprehended by the police, and a question-and-answer session was conducted on Monday, August 25, in the presence of his lawyer. He was subsequently charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, assault at common law, and professing to have a prohibited weapon.
A court date for Williams has not yet been finalised.
