Woman Hit and Killed by Car After She Allegedly Ran Across Road

A woman was hit and killed by a car as she was allegedly running across a road in St. James on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Carol Campbell. The 42-year-old was a resident of the Birch Hill district in St. James. According to reports, Campbell was walking along the roadway at approximately 11:05 p.m., just before the incident occurred. When she reached the vicinity of Harvey Beach, she allegedly began running across the road.

Campbell ran into the path of a Toyota Axio motorcar that was traversing the road and suffered severe injuries after being hit. She later died from the injuries she sustained after being transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Campbell’s death follows a hit-and-run on Monday that claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy on the Mandela Highway. From January 1 up to June 9, of the 171 people who were killed in road accidents in 2025, 38 were pedestrians.

Dr Lucien Jones, the vice chairman of the National Road Safety Council, has called for both motorists and pedestrians to be more careful while traversing the roadways. Jones also encouraged the use of pedestrian crossings and paying attention to road markings.
