Ecuadorian Man Dies on Flight Diverted to Jamaica

Jamaican authorities are currently investigating the circumstances which caused an Ecuadorian man to die during his flight, which was diverted to the island on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Luis Ivan Mendez Fajardo. According to reports, the 51-year-old was a passenger on a flight which departed JFK Airport in New York.

The exact time of the man’s departure is not known, but his flight was destined for Bogota, Colombia. However, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Fajardo became ill during the flight and later collapsed.

According to Radio Jamaica News, the Ecuadorian national was a cancer patient. After Fajardo collapsed on the plane, he received medical attention from a doctor and a nurse who was also on the flight.

Despite the doctor and the nurse’s attempts to revive him, Fajardo passed away on the plane, and he was declared dead by the doctor. Following his death, the flight was diverted to Jamaica and landed at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

The body of the deceased was later taken to the Kingston Public Hospital so he could be officially pronounced dead by the medical staff. Fajardo’s death is currently being investigated by the East Kingston Police and Jamaica’s aviation authority.
