A video circulating on social media has sparked outrage after a woman was seen striking a young girl inside what looks to be a residential home.
The child is estimated to be around five or six years old and is seen being confronted by the woman over a missing cigarette.
The video was apparently captured secretly by someone else in the room. During the video, the woman accuses the child of taking the cigarette and playing with it before it went missing.
The woman can be heard verbally berating the child before dragging her and striking her twice.
The child appears distressed as the woman continues to search for the cigarette.
At one point, the woman stands up and begins moving things around the room. She shakes out the bed sheets and searches through the area, apparently trying to locate the missing cigarette.
It is unclear when or where the video was recorded, and there is currently no verified information about what happened before or after the footage was recorded.
There is also no confirmed information that the incident has been reported to the police or child-protection authorities, and no information has emerged indicating that the woman has been arrested.
Calls for Action
The footage has now been widely shared across social media, with viewers expressing disgust over the treatment of the child and calling for authorities to investigate.
The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) is responsible for receiving and investigating reports involving children who may have been abused, neglected or otherwise in need of care and protection.
The circumstances surrounding the video remain unconfirmed, including the identities of the woman and child, when the incident occurred, and whether authorities are aware of the footage.
As the video continues to circulate, much of the public reaction has centred on the welfare of the young girl and calls for the appropriate authorities to determine what happened and whether the child is safe.
