A man died after sustaining fatal injuries when he was crushed by a reversing flatbed truck that pinned him against another trailer in a shocking workplace accident captured on CCTV on Wednesday afternoon in Kingston.
The man was identified only as ‘Oniel’, a businessman in the Kingston parish.
According to reports, Oneil appeared to have been working on or near the flatbed truck when it suddenly began reversing.
CCTV footage showed no driver behind the wheel as the vehicle rolled backward, trapping him between the moving flatbed and another trailer parked behind it.
The footage showed Oneil remaining pinned between the two vehicles for several minutes. A woman who was driving by spotted the lifeless body and alerted someone in the area.
Help came as a driver entered the flatbed and drove it forward, freeing the now-deceased.
After being released, Oneil immediately collapsed to the ground as nearby workers rushed to assist him.
He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
The tragic incident has left workers on the complex and others who witnessed the aftermath in shock, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, including how the unattended flatbed truck was able to reverse without a driver and whether any mechanical failure or workplace safety breaches contributed to the fatal incident.
