After spending years helping to create music for some of Jamaica’s biggest entertainers, songwriter and recording artiste Melloquence is stepping back into the spotlight and this time, people are talking.
His newest single, Blue Light, has been generating plenty of conversation since its release. Featured on the Abu Dhabi Riddim, the track takes aim at corruption in Jamaica while touching on alleged extrajudicial killings involving members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Its fearless message has captured the attention of listeners, with many praising the song for addressing issues that are rarely tackled in mainstream dancehall.
For some listeners, Blue Light is their first introduction to Melloquence as a recording artiste. However, behind the scenes, he’s already built a reputation as a respected songwriter and performer.
Over the years, Melloquence has written songs for Grammy Award-winning dancehall icon Beenie Man, along with Romain Virgo and Elephant Man.
He’s also no stranger to the stage, having toured Europe with Elephant Man, performing for audiences across the continent and gaining valuable experience in the process.
Although his latest release is making plenty of noise, it didn’t happen overnight.
Melloquence’s last official single, Entangle, was released in 2020, and since then, he has continued working on music behind the scenes while waiting for the right moment to return with another solo release.
The making of Blue Light

According to the artiste, it all started with fellow recording artiste and longtime friend Villa Dutch, who introduced him to the Abu Dhabi Riddim. The beat immediately caught his attention. Without wasting any time, Melloquence searched for the riddim on YouTube, and unofficially recorded Blue Light over it.
Before any official release was discussed, a short snippet of the song found its way onto TikTok.
Within days, the clip had racked up thousands of views as users shared and reacted to the powerful lyrics. The growing buzz eventually caught the attention of popular blogger Mello Vibes, whose reaction video helped expose the track to an even wider audience.
The online response soon reached the producer behind the Abu Dhabi Riddim.
Impressed by the momentum the song had already created, the producer contacted Melloquence and invited him to officially become part of the project. That opportunity placed him alongside several well-known names featured on the riddim, including Nigy Boy, Deep Jahi, Munga, and Yaksta.
What started as an unofficial recording made out of pure inspiration eventually became an official release sharing space with some of the biggest names on one of the year’s most talked-about riddims.
Just a few days after its official release, Blue Light has already racked up thousands of views on YouTube.
Melloquence’s extensive music catalog and experience

Outside of Blue Light, Melloquence has quietly built an impressive catalogue of collaborations throughout his career.
His Hot Wata EP features dancehall veteran Cutty Ranks and reggae legend Mykal Rose, bringing together three generations of Jamaican music on one project.
He also teamed up with Elephant Man on the track Hold Me, further adding to a working relationship that extends beyond the recording studio.
The same EP also includes Love The Way You Do Me, a collaboration with dancehall artiste Cecile, while another notable release, Heard It Rise, sees Melloquence joining forces with Villa Dutch and Dazzla on the Arise And Shine Riddim.
With Blue Light continuing to gain momentum online, many fans believe the timing couldn’t be better for the artiste’s return.
After years of helping shape songs for some of dancehall’s biggest stars, Melloquence is once again putting his own voice front and centre. If the early response to Blue Light is any indication, his return may be just getting started.
