Four alleged gunmen were fatally shot and one was wounded after a reported gun battle with members of the police in St. Catherine on Wednesday night.
The shooting took place sometime after 9:00pm on the Linstead bypass in close proximity to the Rosemount roundabout.
Reports are that five gunmen reportedly shot and killed a man and wounded another in Guys Hill. St. Catherine.
While escaping from the scene, the police set a dragnet for them on the Linstead bypass.
Upon reaching the spot, the men were signaled by the police to stop, and they immediately responded with gunfire.
After the shooting subsided, four suspects were shot and killed, and one was taken to the Linstead Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment under police guard.
One police officer was shot and injured during the reported gun battle.
That officer was shot in his ballistic vest and was treated and released from the hospital.
