16-Y-O Arrested After Lying that a Man Sexually Assaulted Her

A teenage girl is now facing charges after admitting to falsely accusing a man of sexually assaulting her because she had feelings for him, but he did not want to pursue a romantic relationship with her.

The man’s age was not shared, but the teen, who originally made the false report in 2022, is currently 16 years of age. Following the accusations three years ago, a probe was conducted by the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), and the man was facing 10 serious charges, including sexual grooming and production of child pornography.

After being accused of the crime, the man had repeatedly maintained his innocence at multiple court hearings. The teen made the admission today in the St. Catherine Circuit Court during their latest hearing.

The hearing was presided over by Justice Dale Palmer. She confessed to Justice Palmer that she was in love with the man, but she later accused him of assaulting her because her feelings were not reciprocated.

She also told Palmer that she would not be pursuing the case against the accused man. Justice Palmer subsequently freed the gentleman, who was represented by Shelldon Campbell and Earl Hamilton.

The judge went on to enquire if the crown would pursue a case against the minor, who was then taken into custody on suspicion of creating public mischief.
