The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has launched a probe into the shooting death of a teen who was killed by an intruder during a suspected burglary at her home in St. Andrew early Monday morning.
The deceased’s name has not yet been shared with the public, but reports state that she was 18 years of age. Preliminary reports also indicate that the teen was a sixth-grade student at the prominent corporate area secondary school, Queen’s High.
Superintendent Randy Sweeny, the Head of the St. Andrew North Police, shared with the press that the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. According to reports, the teen was at her home in Smokey Vale with her relatives when an armed intruder broke into the residence.
The man was reportedly ransacking the residence when the teen exited her room and came face-to-face with him. The assailant shot the teen in the head and then fled the scene.
It is not clear if the intruder removed anything from the residence. The girl was rushed to a hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility. Investigations into the shooting are ongoing, and Superintendent Sweeny is urging members of the public with information relating to the case to contact the Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch.
