The St. James police have launched a probe into the suspected suicide of a teen who was found dead at home with a cord around his neck.
The body of the deceased, Twain Skyers, was discovered by his mother at their home in Lilliput on Thursday. It is believed that Skyers’ death may be connected to his mother allegedly beating him for repeatedly coming home from school late.
His passing has left members of his community in disbelief, with many shocked that the teen may have been driven to take his own life due to his mother disciplining him. Despite his mother warning him on multiple occasions not to return home late, reports state that the Hopewell High School student arrived at home sometime after 6 p.m. on the day of the incident.
Skyers’ mother reportedly disciplined him that evening and was later unable to find him. After searching for her son around their community, the mother returned home and realised that the bathroom door was locked.
Relatives helped her to force the door open, and the teen was found hanging from the shower by an electrical cord. Skyers was later pronounced dead after his family rushed him to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
