Friday’s staging of Reggae Sumfest saw Dancehall hitmaker Masicka take to the stage as well as the highly anticipated crowning of Vybz Kartel as the new King of Dancehall.
As he took to the stage on Friday, Masicka hinted that he may never perform at Sumfest again because of the way people were behaving. He went on to declare himself the “baddest artiste” during his performance.
Controversy was further ignited when Jahshii seemingly suggested that Kartel’s crowning does not make him better than Masicka.
“Me nuh know wah kind a boot dat yuh have on, but me seh dem nuh bad like yuh shoes lace. Dem seh crown a put out and crown a guh, nobody, none a dem,” Jahshii said after he joined Masicka on stage.
Clips from the concert quickly went viral online, and MC Nuffy lashed out at both of the deejays on social media in defence of Kartel.
“Unuh caan siddung a talk bout unuh nah bl**dcl**t do back nuh Sumfest. Move unuh bl**dcl**t and guh weh. Unuh badmind nuh bl**dcl**t. All you now Jahshii, before yuh mind yuh own business. Yuh get yuh likkle bl**dcl**t chance wid Silk Boss, Eh. Likkle hungry belly Jahshii yuh get yuh likkle bl**dcl**t chance wid Silk Boss fi get a career in a yuh hand. All yuh interested in is run back a man,” MC Nuffy said.
Nuffy went on to highlight that it was not easy for Kartel to surpass Beenie Man and become the King of Dancehall. He also said that Kartel will be the final king of the genre.
“Me say it and me a guh say it again, yuh see afta dah king yahthere will be no more king in Dancehall and me a promise unuh dat. Because unuh nah do nuh bl**dcl**t work. Unuh nah work… Afta bl**dcl**t Kartel no more king. Me know because me know Dancehall,” Nuffy said.
He further stated that the current deejays in the industry have not even surpassed Beenie Man. Nuffy suggested that their performances are unremarkable as they have not left a mark at any of the events they are featured on.
The MC suggested that there is a lack of respect in the industry for Kartel.
