Man Killed, Shotgun Seized by the Police During Alleged Confrontation in Old Harbour

A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, this morning.

The identity of the deceased male has not yet been shared with the public. According to reports, the incident occurred when a police team was conducting an operation on Gordon Wood Lane at about 2:15 a.m. The officers saw a man and tried to accost him; however, he challenged the officers. As he was allegedly armed with a shotgun, the officers took evasive action and fired at him.

The man sustained gunshot wounds, and his weapon was seized. He was later assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) was informed of the fatal shooting. INDECOM is also probing the deaths of three men who were fatally shot by police on Wednesday.

The men were killed during three separate incidents that occurred in the communities of New Nursery, Dela Vega City, and Dam Head in Spanish Town. Reports state that the police seized firearms during all three of the incidents.

Fatalities involving members of the JCF have surpassed 176 since the beginning of the year.
