A father is grieving the death of his eldest daughter after finding her body in a pit on Sunday.
Derricka Rogers was last seen at the Milk River bus park in May Pen, Clarendon, on May 29. Rogers, a resident of Piper Street, Gravel Hill, had left home to visit a friend, but her family and friends became concerned when they could not contact her.
According to Rogers’ father, Derrick Rodgers, this was quite unusual, as they could always reach her easily. After his daughter went missing, Rogers spent days searching for the first of his four daughters, trying to piece together clues to locate her.
Tips received during his investigation ultimately led him to a property in Milk River. The unfinished house on the property was reportedly unoccupied, as the owner of the residence lives abroad.
According to Rodgers, when he searched the property, he found two septic pits, one of which appeared to have been tampered with.
“When wi just find the house mi see two manhole. One cover up and the other one just deh, deh… The one weh cover up, it look like it a work pan. From yuh look pan it yuh see seh it tamper wid,” Rodgers disclosed to The Jamaica Star.
Rodgers went on to share that the owner of the property revealed that the pits had not been worked on for about four years. He was given the go-ahead via the caretaker of the property to search the septic pits. However, Rodgers was told that he would have to cover the cost of any damage done to them.
The concerned father proceeded with his search and tragically found the remains of his daughter in the pit.
“A so come people come start help, and when we look is a body bag. From dem take it out and mi see the crocs me know a mi daughter. Dem start take out everything else. Her bag did in deh wid her purse, her ID everything,” Rodgers shared.
The grieving father described his daughter as someone who always smiled and said the last time they spoke they were joking with each other.
“Mi daughter nuh give talking, she always a smile… Me have one juice and she seh she want it, and me a joke seh she nah get it.”
The circumstances surrounding the death of the 20-year-old print shop worker are currently under investigation.
