Fifty-three-year-old Melodie Baker is the third woman to die from a shooting involving a licensed firearm holder in Mandeville.
Prior to Baker’s death, two other women, 42-year-old Stacy-Ann Mulgrave and 46-year-old Ann-Marie Hanson, died from the injuries they sustained during the shooting. All three women resided in Manchester.
Baker succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night, while Hanson and Mulgrave died on the day of the incident. According to reports, on February 23, the accused, Patrick Thompson, got into an altercation with another man around midnight at a candlelight vigil on Levy Lane near Nashville.
The argument stemmed from a motor vehicle accident. As the disagreement escalated, a crowd gathered in the area, and Thompson allegedly pulled out his firearm and shot at them. In addition to Baker, Mulgrave, and Hanson, two other individuals were also injured.
Thompson left the scene of the incident after the shooting. He was later arrested and charged and remains in police custody, as he was denied bail.
According to Thompson’s attorney Peter Champagnie, his client acted in defence after he was attacked. He reportedly sustained injuries to his chest.
Thompson has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit injury, using a firearm to commit a felony, two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of murder, and two counts of attempted murder.
