Police in Portland have launched an investigation after the body of a female foetus was found in bushes near the Registrar General’s Department building at West Palm Court in Port Antonio on Wednesday.
Investigators said the remains appeared to have been damaged, suggesting that animals may have removed one hand and both feet from the foetus.
A preliminary examination indicates the foetus was between six and seven months old.
As part of the investigation, detectives are expected to visit health facilities in the area to review maternal care records in an effort to identify the mother.
Police are also appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact them.
