Five men killed in alleged police confrontation, officer injured

Four men were reportedly killed in what police described as a deadly confrontation at Kent Village near the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine on Tuesday evening.

A fifth man who reportedly escaped from the scene was hunted down and killed a few hours later in another alleged confrontation with the police.

The deceased have not yet been identified up to writing.

Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St Catherine North Police Division, confirmed that one officer was shot, a constable assigned to the  Linstead Police Station.

The superintendent reported that the injured officer is in serious but stable condition.

Two firearms were reportedly recovered from the first scene.

The Independent Commission of Investigations INDECOM has since launched an investigation.
