Detectives attached to the Clarendon police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a train gatekeeper who was fatally shot over the weekend while he was on duty.
The deceased has been identified as Vincent Clark. The thirty-five-year-old was working at the Gravel Hill District railway crossing in Milk River on Saturday when the incident occurred. According to reports, Clarke was on duty with a co-worker at approximately 3:20 a.m. when two men approached them.
Clarke had just closed the gate after allowing the train to pass when the two men attacked him and opened fire. His co-worker managed to escape from the scene on foot, but the men chased Clarke after he ran away.
Operations were halted at the Gravel Hill railway crossing, as there was no one there to operate the gate upon the return of the train. The police were later alerted, and upon the officers’ arrival, Clarke’s body was found several metres away from the train gate in a dirt track.
The authorities transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Reports state that he sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
InvestigaA motive for the attack has not yet been established.
