Vybz Kartel made his debut appearance on GQ Magazine’s popular 10 Essentials series on YouTube, and according to the artiste, the Bible, a gift from Popcaan, and his manager, TJ, are some of the things he can’t live without.
During the video, which was released on Wednesday, Kartel kicked off his list of 10 essentials with the Bible. Highlighting his favourite passage from the book of Psalms, the deejay explained that he can always turn to Psalms when he feels like giving up.
Kartel also reflected on turning to God during his incarceration.
“Being incarcerated, I spoke out to God; I cried for help, and he replied. And I made a promise that if you get me out, I will never stop calling your name, never stop praising your name, never stop being as positive as I can, and I’m keeping that promise to this day,” Kartel stated.
Another essential that Kartel highlighted was the Rolex watch gifted to him by his former protégé, Popcaan. While the ‘Worl’ Boss’ pointed out that he always wears at least two watches, he explained the significance of Popcaan’s gift as he received it after his release from prison.
He also joked that he might be able to make up for some lost time by wearing two watches. In addition to the luxury products that Kartel showcased during the video, the deejay also took some time to laud his manager and friend, TJ of TJ Records.
Kartel has worked on several hit singles with the Jamaican producer and shared that he was the first artiste to record for him. Describing TJ as his brother, Kartel highlighted the producer’s role in his life.
According to the Colouring This Life artiste, TJ ensures that his life goes as smoothly as possible, but he also noted that he is very serious when it comes to work.
