Murder of Bar Operator Shocks St. Elizabeth Community

The murder of a bar operator in a quiet St. Elizabeth community has left residents shocked and concerned about what it may mean for the relatively peaceful area.

The deceased has been identified as Latisha ‘Latty’ Green. Green operated her business and resided in the community of Third Street in the Lititz district in Nain.

Following Green’s death, People’s National Party (PNP) Councillor Layton Smith said that Wednesday’s shooting was unexpected. Smith also explained that the community had not experienced such a violent crime in some time.

“It is a shock to the community because nobody was looking for this. Things were quiet for months. Nobody heard anything about any violence within the area, and all of a sudden this comes out of nowhere, so it is really a cause for concern,” Smith stated.

Reports state that Green was attacked by an armed man at approximately 10:00 pm last night near a bar. The assailant shot Green multiple times, injuring a bystander who was also at the scene during the process.

Green and the injured man were taken to a hospital for treatment, but she was later pronounced dead. The other victim was admitted to the medical facility.
