Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force shot and killed a man in Waterhouse, Kingston, on Thursday.
Authorities identified the deceased as Tajay Freeman, also known as ‘Weng,’ from a Denham Town, West Kingston address.
Reports are that, on Thursday afternoon, a police team went on a targeted operation to apprehend wanted men.
As they approached a premise occupied by the now-deceased, he reportedly fired at them.
The police then took evasive action and returned fire.
When the shooting subsided, authorities found Freeman suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The police reportedly retrieved a firearm.
Residents rubbished the police’s account of the incident, calling it cold-blooded murder.
Lisa Hyper, a Dancehall artiste and relative of Tajay Freeman shared on her verified Instagram account that the police killed her cousin while he was sleeping.
81 men have so far been killed by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force JCF since the beginning of the year.
