Maxfield Avenue residents are protesting the police killing of a mentally ill man inside of his St. Andrew home.
Residents are demanding justice, calling the actions of the police cold-blooded murder.
The deceased has been identified as Joel McFarlane, otherwise known as ‘Speedometer’.
The police are reporting that the man was killed in a shoot-out.
Residents, however, rubbished the police’s account of the incident.
Joel’s sister stated that her brother was diagnosed with a mental illness at 17 years old.
He was released from Bellevue Hospital and was prescribed medications.
His sister said in an interview with TVJ News that the recent police killings all have a pattern.
“Them cyaa go into an upscale community and kick off people door, a only in poor communities police can go into your house and murder you,” she said.
INDECOM is probing the matter.
