Spice Speaks Out After Pastor Who Criticised Her is Stripped of His Minister Title

In January Spice embarked on her five-day Ohhhh No School Tour, which saw her visit multiple high schools across the country, including Waterford and Cumberland High. However, the Dancehall artiste faced backlash from multiple parties, including Pastor Jeffrey Shuttleworth, who accused her of being a symbol of sexual immorality and promiscuity.

According to Spice, her school tour, which was inspired by her song Hell No, was meant to encourage teens to say no to depravity and stand firm on their beliefs and values. However, Shuttleworth described her presence at the schools as unacceptable.

Last week, the Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) voted to revoke Shuttleworth’s ministerial credentials. The JBU’s decision bars Shuttleworth from leading any JBU-affiliated congregation.

On Monday, Spice reacted to a Jamaica Gleaner report about Shuttleworth’s title getting stripped. Spice highlighted that the same man who had tried to stop her school tour is now stripped of his title after allegedly trying to steal church property. She also highlighted the decision was made after an overwhelming majority voted to have him removed.

The artiste instructed Shuttleworth to follow the lesson she was about to teach in her Instagram post, as everyone falls short of God’s glory. She went on to share that his criticisms of her earlier this year left her in tears.

“Now Jeffery, come make we talk (bout) this. You brought me to tears for days, and see it deh now. While you were so busy chastising, criticizing and trying to publicly humiliate me, calling me promiscuous, You were falling short in your own ministry,” Spice wrote and continued by stating, “This post is simply to remind you how God works in mysterious ways. Today I’m gonna be a messenger to you, even tho your words in the past was that I wasn’t the right messenger.”

The Back Way artiste went on to quote Luke 6:37, reminding the controversial pastor not to judge. Noting that his actions were un-Jesus-like, Spice said that Shuttleworth had condemned her instead of attempting to convert her.

She also called on the former Baptist minister to reflect on Matthew 23:12 — “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Spice concluded her statement by expressing her hopes that Shuttleworth would become a better person. She also noted that pride comes at a cost.
