Unknown assailants shot and killed a policeman at his home in Old Harbour, St. Catherine.
Authorities identified the deceased as Corporal Kamal Mayne of the Kingston Western Police Division.
Reports are that sometime after 5:00am, residents stumbled upon Mayne’s body and alerted the police.
Residents found the Corporal’s body outside his house, next to his motor vehicle, with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.
His firearm was reportedly stolen.
Corporal Kamal Mayne has been a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force for about two decades.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness mourned the killing of Corporal Kamal Mayne, calling it a heartbreaking loss to his family, colleagues, and the nation.
“Corporal Mayne’s life mattered, his service mattered, and his death will not be in vain”, the Prime Minister said.
Dr. Holness praised the bravery of Jamaica’s police, highlighting the risks they take daily to build a safer, more peaceful country.
