Footage Shows Police Seizure of Submachine Gun in St. Elizabeth

During a targeted operation on Wednesday, the St. Elizabeth police located and seized a submachine gun.

The disclosure was made by the Superintendent of the St. Elizabeth Police, Coleridge Minto, in a video shared with the press. In the footage, several officers can be seen searching a heavily bushy area.

Multiple canoes and a bicycle were seen at the location. The submachine gun was found under one of the canoes.

“At about 11:00 am today, a team of officers conducted a targeted operation in the Slipe community in the vicinity of Timber Bridge. The general area was searched to include the morass. A number of canoes were seen. Those were also checked, and a search was conducted in the bushy areas. At the end of the search an Intratec submachine gun was seized,” Minto said.

The superintendent further disclosed that the serial number of the weapon was erased. He also said that no rounds for the submachine gun were found.

According to Minto, the authorities suspect that several other prohibited weapons have been hidden in the area.

“The team is continuing the search in this area based on the intelligence that several other prohibited weapons are in this general area. We will continue our efforts across the division to ensure that prohibited weapons are removed from the streets and the persons connected with committing criminal offences are brought to justice,” Minto stated.
