The remains believed to be those of a missing second-form high school student from Clarendon were reportedly discovered in a burnt-out refrigerator near her family’s home in Clarendon on Monday.
The body, which was in an advanced stage of decomposition at the time it was found, is suspected to be that of Santina Sergeant, who resided in Riverside Bailleston. The thirteen-year-old, who recently transferred from Excelsior High, attended Christiana High School on the afternoon shift in Manchester.
According to reports, Sergeant’s father reported her missing on Friday, October 3. A team from the Christiana Police Station later went looking for the missing teen on Monday, October 6.
However, initial reports indicate that it was passers-by who stumbled upon Sergeant’s body at approximately 5:30 p.m. and went on to notify the police. Reports state that her remains were found in a bushy area at the back of her family’s house under a zinc in a burnt-out refrigerator.
Sergeant’s body was subsequently removed from the scene and transferred to the Percy Junor Hospital in Spalding. Following news of her death, reports state that there was a sombre mood at Christiana High.
The school’s principal, Leecent Wallace, shared with The Jamaica Observer that they have arranged grief counselling for those mourning the loss of the teen.
