The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is currently investigating the death of a Jamaica-Parish Court Judge, Ruthe Lawrence, who passed away in Trelawny on Tuesday.
According to reports, Lawrence was discovered unresponsive by her spouse at the couple’s home in Coral Spring on Tuesday. The judge was then transported to the Falmouth Public General Hospital at about 7:50 p.m., where she was pronounced dead.
Initial reports indicate that there were no signs of physical injury observed on Judge Lawrence’s body. Glendon Miller, the acting commissioner of police in charge of the Area One Police division, shared with The Jamaica Observer that her death is being treated as a suspected suicide pending further investigation.
“By virtue of the initial investigation so far, which is really in the early stages, we are considering what transpired with Judge Ruth Lawrence’s passing as a suspected case of suicide for now, pending further investigation,” Miller said.
Commissioner Miller went on to share that their investigative team is being led by Superintendent Jermaine Anglin, the crime officer for Area One, and they are ensuring that they do not miss any details. Miller also disclosed that the forensic aspect of JCF’s probe into Lawrence’s death, which commenced last night, continued today with the collection of necessary statements
