The Jamaica Constabulary Force is currently investigating the murder of a member of the rural farming community in the Harewood district of St. Catherine, who was shot and killed by armed assailants on Sunday night.
The deceased man has been identified as Wayne Mondle. The fifty-five-year-old, who also used the aliases ‘Coco’ and ‘Hanson, was a fruit vendor by profession and worked in multiple areas of St. Catherine, including Riversdale, Portmore, and Harewood, where he resided.
According to reports, Mondle was at home with his relatives when the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 pm. Explosions were heard coming from one of the bedrooms at the residence, and checks were made.
Mondle, who was clad in a black pair of shorts, was subsequently found lying in a pool of blood, motionless, on his back. Reports state that the fruit vendor seemingly sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head.
The police were called to the scene, and Mondle’s body was later removed from the residence by a funeral home. Investigators attached to the Riversdale police are currently leading the probe into his death.
A motive for Mondle’s murder has not yet been established. The St. Catherine North and St. Catherine South police divisions had recorded 40 and 45 murders, respectively, between January 1 and September 27.
