Alleged Former Gang Member Killed By The Police In Nannyville

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the death of a man who was shot and killed by the police in Nannyville, Kingston, on Monday. While the police have accused the man of opening fire on them first, the deceased’s mother has accused the officers of killing her son in cold blood.

The deceased, Nicardo Lewis, was a resident of Bue Mountain Drive, Nannyville. The 28-year-old, who was also known as ‘Papi’, was allegedly a former member of the Ackeem ‘Bwoy Bwoy’ Newman-led faction of the Ashanti Gang.

The gang is reportedly involved in criminal activity in sections of the Nannyville community. According to reports, a police team consisting of approximately 20 officers went to Lewis’s home during a planned intelligence-driven operation.

While approaching his house, Lewis allegedly opened fire on the officers, forcing them to return the gunfire. Lewis was injured during the exchange of gunfire, and after the shooting subsided, his firearm was seized.

None of the officers sustained injury during the alleged shootout. Lewis was later transported to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he was pronounced dead by doctors at the medical facility.

Following his death, Lewis’s mother, Rosemarie Walker, has shared a contradictory series of events leading up to her son’s fatal shooting. According to Walker, her son was not armed and was holding a baby when the officers came to the property.

Walker accused the officers of taking the infant from her son and then shooting him. She further accused the police of allegedly placing a gun in her son’s hands and firing a shot from the weapon.

There have been 214 police-related fatal shootings since the beginning of 2025.
