Labourer Charged with Murder After Allegedly Stabbing Man in the Stomach

The police have charged a labourer from St. Ann who allegedly stabbed a man to death after intervening in a fight between the deceased and another man.

The accused man has been identified as Sanjay Hull. The 22-year-old resident of the Matilda district is accused of killing 28-year-old Asauni Sterling last Saturday, August 16.

According to reports from the Alexandria police, Sterling and another man got into a verbal confrontation in the community at about 6:00 p.m. During the argument between the two men, Hull reportedly intervened and brandished a knife, which he allegedly used to stab Sterling multiple times in his stomach.

Sterling was transported to a hospital; however, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The incident was later reported to the authorities, and Hull turned himself in to the police on Monday in the company of his lawyer.

A question-and-answer session was conducted in the presence of his lawyer, and he was formally charged on Wednesday based on the police’s interview as well as an eyewitness statement. Hull’s court date is currently being arranged.

Thirty-six murders have been reported in St. Ann for the period January 1 to August 16, matching the homicides reported over the same period last year.
