A St. Catherine man was arrested and slapped with multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman in her sleep.
The accused has been identified as Richard Taylor. The 31-year-old, who also went by the alias ‘Richie’, is a resident of the Newton district in Harkers Hall in Glengoffe, where the incident reportedly happened on Monday.
According to reports, at approximately 1 a.m. on Monday, a woman went to sleep at her home but later woke up to find Taylor holding her down.
Reports state that the woman used the light on her cell phone to shine on Taylor, who she then realised was naked. The man allegedly assaulted the woman and then demanded that she have intercourse with him.
However, after the woman raised an alarm, Taylor ran away, leaving his shorts behind in her room. Taylor, who allegedly entered the woman’s home via a grille he had forced open, fled the house using the same route.
The incident was reported to the police, who later arrested Taylor on Tuesday. He was subsequently charged with burglary and assault with intent to rape after an interview in the presence of his lawyer.
Taylor’s first court hearing is scheduled for August 26 at the St. Catherine Parish Court.
