An unidentified male was shot and killed by the police during a series of operations in Westmoreland on Thursday that led to the seizure of multiple firearms and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
The deceased’s name is currently being withheld pending the notification of his family. According to reports, the operations were conducted in the community of Darliston after the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) became aware of a plot to have weapons and ammunition imported into Jamaica through the country’s ports.
According to reports, a police team attempted to intercept the man, who is believed to be one of the individuals in the illicit weapons trade. During the operation, the man allegedly opened fire on the officers, who returned fire, shooting him.
He was later pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. In addition to the 1,100 rounds of assorted ammunition, two pistols, and a rifle that were seized, the police also found items such as electrical devices and documents during the operation.
The police disclosed that the items will be forensically examined. The JCF’s High Command further stated that its detectives are pursuing both local and overseas leads.
