Man Killed at Ocho Rios Police Station After Allegedly Confronting Officers

The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was killed after allegedly confronting the police at the Ocho Rios lock-up in St. Ann.

According to reports, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The deceased man has been identified as Sammaine McBean, a resident of Ocho Rios who was employed as a labourer.

The precise details surrounding the incident have not yet been disclosed, but reports state that the 32-year-old got into a confrontation with the police at the station and was shot. McBean later succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. The shooting was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM), which has since launched a probe into the matter.

It was previously reported that an inmate at the Ocho Rios Police Station was shot and killed after escaping on Wednesday. Reports state that the inmate ran from the station onto Milford Road and was shot while a police team tried to apprehend him.

It is not yet clear if the case is connected to McBean’s. According to reports from INDECOM, there have been 196 police-related fatal shootings since the beginning of the year.
