Following a gun attack on an officer’s family over the weekend, the police fatally shot the person believed to be the triggerman on Wednesday. The authorities have also detained a female acquaintance of the policeman, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the attack.
The deceased man has been identified as Orlando Thomas. The 23-year-old was also known by the alias ‘Ninja’.
According to reports, a police team encountered two armed men in Salt Spring, St. James, yesterday evening. After the men allegedly opened fire on them, a shootout ensued, and Thomas was shot.
While Thomas collapsed along the roadway from his injuries, his accomplice escaped on foot. A firearm with ammunition was reportedly seized from him at the scene, and he was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
Thomas was allegedly associated with the KDF gang in the Mount Salem community. A female suspect was also taken into police custody on Wednesday.
According to The Jamaica Observer, the woman, a business associate of the policeman who was shot, was apprehended by the police at a guest house in Red Ground, Hanover.
The woman has not yet been charged, but the news outlet’s police source expressed confidence that she will be as the police continue to carry out their investigation.
“There is no doubt that she will be charged,” a Jamaica Constabulary Force member told the outlet.
The woman is believed to be the mastermind behind the deadly attack on the policeman, his spouse, and his son. The officer, who was a member of the Area 1 Lottery Scam Task Force, was shot in the back, and his son in the head.
According to reports, both the officer and his son remain in critical condition at the hospital, while his spouse was killed at the scene of the shooting on August 9.
