Two male suspects, one of whom was a reputed gang leader, were shot and killed by officers as the police continue to investigate Saturday’s deadly gun attack on a policeman and his family.
Both of the suspects were fatally wounded after they allegedly confronted members of a police team on Monday morning during two separate operations. One of the deceased men has reportedly been identified as Andre Reid.
Reid, who was also known by the alias ‘Likkle Zullu’, was allegedly the head of the Top Junglist/Katan Defence Force (KDF) Gang, which is based in St. Catherine Mountain, St. James.
According to reports, the incident occurred while a police team was carrying out an intelligence-driven operation in Shooters Hill, St. Andrew, at approximately 5 a.m. While the officers were at the location, Reid allegedly opened fire on them.
The officers returned the gunfire, shooting Reid. An AK-47 assault rifle with a magazine affixed containing five rounds was reportedly seized at the scene.
Reid was later transported to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Reports state that the other deceased suspect, who has not yet been identified, was killed during a police operation in St. James.
Per the Jamaica Observer, Reid is believed to be the mastermind behind the murder of a policeman’s spouse and son over the weekend. The policeman was assigned to the Area 1 Lottery Scamming Task Force.
According to reports, the officer, accompanied by his spouse, Latoya Stephenson, and their son, Zamir Morgan, met up with a man known as Romario on Saturday night on the Reading main road to retrieve car keys.
After Stephenson retrieved the keys and returned to the vehicle, she was shot and killed. 5-year-old Morgan was shot in the head and later died while receiving treatment for his injuries at a hospital.
The officer, who received gunshot wounds in his back, remains hospitalised.
