A twelve-year-old boy was fatally injured after he was hit by a vehicle along Prospect Main Road in South Manchester on Tuesday evening.
The deceased minor has been identified as Malique Barnes. At the time of the incident, Barnes was attempting to cross the road on his bicycle when he was hit by a Toyota Hiace.
After the boy was hit, the driver of the Hiace rushed him to a hospital. However, Barnes was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver, whose name has not yet been shared with the public, reported the incident to the authorities. The man was detained by the police for questioning up to late Tuesday.
However, he was freed after CCTV footage recorded at the time of the incident was released. In the footage, a man can be seen parking an Isuzu truck in front of a building moments before the accident happened at about 3:20 p.m.
Barnes then comes along on his bicycle, the truck obstructing the view of the oncoming traffic on the road. Barnes proceeds to ride out from behind the truck onto the right side of the road, and the Hiace comes from the left shortly after, hitting the boy off-camera.
