Cop in Viral Video Damaging Sound System Removed from Frontline Duty

A police officer who was recorded damaging a piece of sound system equipment this week has been removed from frontline duty after the video of him ignited backlash.

Footage of a Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) member damaging the piece of music equipment was released on various social media platforms and quickly went viral. The incident occurred after the conclusion of an event at 33 Lane off Waltham Park Road in St. Andrew on Sunday.

In the video, the officer can be seen kicking a console on top of a table. After the equipment does not fall off, he proceeds to shove the console off, as well as what appears to be a laptop.

According to reports, the equipment belonged to the Full Force sound system, and the officer also reportedly turned over speaker boxes as well.

The video caused massive criticism online, with viewers questioning if the officer would be charged for the act. While no charges have been laid against the officer for destruction of property, he was removed from frontline duty and is expected to receive counselling.

The counselling will be facilitated by a special unit. The commanding officer for the Area 4 Police, Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, disclosed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
