The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) disclosed on Tuesday that a police constable was arrested during an intelligence-led operation targeting illegal firearms.
According to a statement released on the JCF’s official Instagram account, the operation was conducted earlier today in Florence Hill, St. Andrew. The constable was arrested after two prohibited firearms were seized during a what the organisation described as a coordinated raid on a premises in the community.
The JCF also shared that the operation was triggered by credible intelligence on the illegal vending of firearms. Additionally, it forms a part of the wider investigation into illicit firearms trafficking.
The JCF further stated that the constable’s arrest represents a significant development in its ongoing offensive against the illegal gun trade. In addition to highlighting that tackling illegal gun trade remains one of their highest priorities, the constabulary force noted that there is no place in its organisation for those who wish to subvert the law.
“Members of the JCF are entrusted with extraordinary powers and public confidence. Any breach of that trust, especially involving criminal conduct, will be met with a swift and uncompromising consequences. There is no place in this organisation for individuals who seek to use their position to subvert the law,” the JCF said.
The JCF went on to state that the High Command remains committed to removing corruption and criminality, regardless of rank and affiliation. The constabulary force added that further details will be disclosed as their investigations into the illegal firearm trade progresses.
