13-Y-O Hospitalised After Being Chopped by Man Attempting to Rape Her in Negril

A 13-year-old girl was hospitalised after she was severely injured by a man who attempted to sexually assault her on Monday in Westmoreland.

According to reports, the incident occurred sometime in the afternoon in Whitehall, Negril. The assailant, whose identity was not shared, allegedly tried to force the teen into a house.

The girl refused to enter, and the man began inflicting chop wounds all over her body. However, the minor continued to resist, and the assailant fled the scene.

The police were notified, and they later rushed her to a hospital. Per Television Jamaica News, the Jamaica Constabulary Force has since confirmed that the man was apprehended and is in police custody.

The attack on the teen follows several other high-profile cases involving violence against women and children that have triggered massive public outrage. In May, the body of 9-year-old Kelsey Ferrigon was found in a barrel at her home on Job Lane in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on May 9.

The St. John’s Primary School student had been sexually assaulted before she was strangled to death. Later that month, the remains of University of Technology Jamaica (UTech) student Anisa Dilworth were found on a beach in Portmore, St. Catherine, days after she was reported missing.

Most recently, 14-year-old Jamaican-American Tianna Sutherland was chopped to death by a man at the home of a relative during her summer vacation on the island earlier this month.
