Three Killed, Several Injured in Discovery Bay Motor Vehicle Crash

A motor vehicle crash along the Queens Highway in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, claimed the lives of a taxi operator and two women on Wednesday.

The deceased taxi driver has been identified as Clint Carty, a resident of the Old Folly District who operated along the Discovery Bay to Falmouth route. One of the female victims has been identified as Georgia Johnson, while the name of the second remains unconfirmed.

Yesterday’s crash involved a white Honda Step Wagon, which Carty was driving, and a Mitsubishi Outlander. According to reports, the accident occurred after the driver of the Outlander lost control of the vehicle and collided with Carty’s Step Waggon.

In addition to the three fatalities that were recorded as a result of Wednesday’s crash, several people, including two toddlers, were injured and remain hospitalised. Their current condition is not known.

Dr. Lucien Jones, the vice chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), shared that the death toll caused by road crashes since the start of the year is currently at 222.

“The tragedy which unfolded on the north coast means that 222 persons have died on the nation’s roads. A terrible crash where three people died and reportedly ten were injured. This also means that for the month of July, 34 persons have died. This is the same number for June and March,” Dr. Jones said.

The vice chairman added that if the death rate does not drastically decrease, July will be the deadliest month on Jamaica’s roads for 2025 so far.

“… We have to remember that we have another seven days left in July. And therefore, unless something dramatic happens, we’re on track to have the greatest number of persons dying on our roads for 2025 in July, which would be an absolute disaster.”
