Five alleged contract killers, who were reportedly going to carry out a murder plot, were shot and killed by the police during a confrontation in St. Andrew on Monday.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. along Jacks Hill Road while a police team was carrying out investigations into a murder plot. Upon the officers’ arrival at a premises in the community, the team reportedly came under heavy gunfire.
The officers took evasive action and responded to the threat, returning fire at the assailants. After the shooting subsided, five men were found with gunshot wounds.
No members of the police team were injured. The assailants were later transported to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. They have not yet been identified by name.
The constabulary force further disclosed that four firearms, a shotgun, one M16 rifle, a Glock pistol, and a Taurus pistol, were recovered at the scene of the incident. The JCF shared that a sixth man who was at the scene escaped before the officers could apprehend him.
Following the operation, the police seek Courtney ‘Bloodstain’ Ashley. The authorities request that Ashley report to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC). Details regarding the foiled murder plot have not yet been shared with the public.
The shooting was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) as well as the JCF’s Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (PROB).
The number of fatal shootings involving members of the JCF is currently at 183.
